Ramu nickel operation

Report summary

Production commenced at the Ramu River nickel-cobalt mine in Q1 2012. The first shipment of mixed hydroxide product (MHP) into China occurred in November 2012.  In April 2016 failure of one of Ramu's high pressure steam pipeline resulted in the tragic death of one employee and injury to two others. The Papuan Mineral Resources Authority ordered operations to be halted on the three HPAL lines pending a full investigation by a reputable third party company in order to establish the cause of the incident, and to make recommendations to prevent a future occurrence. Mining operations were also halted due to the processing plant being offline. Operations resumed at Ramu in early July 2016 after a three month suspension of activity.
