Sabodala-Massawa gold mine
Report summary
Sabodala-Massawa is an open pit operation utilising conventional truck and shovel mining methods. The process plant currently (2020) comprises a conventional carbon-in-leach (CIL) circuit with a design capacity of 3.6Mt/a fresh ore and 4Mt/a with a mix of oxidised ore. As refractory ore is present for at least 50% of the reserves at Massawa a separate refractory ore treatment (ROT) plant using bacterial oxidation (BIOX) with a capacity of 1.2Mt/a is anticipated to be constructed parallel to the existing plant to allow for processing of refractory ore from 2023.
