Report summary
The Shenyang Smelter Corporation was principally a refined lead and copper producer, with a small zinc smelter, capacity 20kt/a, zinc produced from oxide feeds. The smelter complex was well within the city limits,and serious pollution issues caused closure in 2000. Although new ownership restarted operations, continuing pollution issues again forced closure in late 2001. The urban site was sold in 2002 and the site subsequently re-developed.
