Asset Report
South Division (Svappavaara) iron ore mine
Report summary
The Leveaniemi mine is South Division (Svappavaara)'s only operating mine after the depletion of Gruvberget and the closure of Mertainen. It is LKAB's only open pit mine and is located in the Svappavaara region of Sweden, 40 kilometres southeast of Kiruna. Production from Leveaniemi re-started in 2015 after being drained and is slowly ramping up. However, production is expected to fall short of full capacity of 4 Mtpa due to ongoing unscheduled stoppages at the Svappavaara pellet plant which continues to limit output.
