Asset Report
Thabazimbi iron ore mine
Report summary
Thabazimbi was a small surface mine located in the Limpopo Province operated by Kumba, which is in turn 65.3% owned by Anglo American. The mine suffered a significant slope failure in June 2015. The safety risk, combined with the mine's extremely high strip ratio and high operating costs, has rendered Thabazimbi uneconomic and it has closed. All of its production was sold to ArcelorMittal at cost +20%.
