Asset Report
Tonkolili iron ore mine
Report summary
Operations at Tonkolili stopped in June 2019 when its mining licence was cancelled by the Government of Sierra Leone. Following some uncertainty, Shandong Iron and Steel “relinquished” this site and in September 2020 the mining licence was reissued and handed over to Kingho Mining Company, subsidiary of the Chinese owned Kingho Investment Company. Operations recommenced in late 2020, with existing stockpiles to be depleted first. Stage 2 of the project is progressing and plans to erect a 12Mtpa beneficiation plant by 2024.
