Tonopah SxEw Restart copper mine project
Report summary
Previously, mining at Tonopah was from a 20kt/d open-pit molybdenum and copper mine commissioned by Molycorp in 1981. Operating at full capacity metal production was 2kt/a copper and 8kt/a molybdenum. Operations were suspended in 1983, restarted in 1984, suspended in 1985, restarted by new owners Cyprus Minerals in 1989, and then closed in 1991. Production of copper cathode from a leach-SxEw operation took place from 2000 - 2001.
