Tres Marias zinc smelter

The Tres Marias Smelter was built to treat the oxide/silicate concentrate from the wholly owned Vazante open pit mines (calamine). Production commenced in 1969 with a capacity of 10kt/a. In the late 1980s a new pressure filtration plant for leach residues, engineered by Bokola, was installed to improve leach extraction. By several expansions capacity had reached 80kt/a by 1993.
