Tsingshan extends from nickel and stainless to battery raw materials
Report summary
On 28 September, Tsingshan announced it is going to build a 50-ktpa HPAL plant in Indonesia that will enter production in 2019. The plant will produce nickel intermediates for conversion to battery chemicals. We examine the details of this plan and ask: how realistic is this bold commitment? Certainly the ultimate aim is credible but it is questionable whether such a plant can be ready in only 12 months.
