Asset Report
Tubarao steel plant
Report summary
Located on the coast, 4 miles away from the port, Tubarao is ArcelorMittal's largest steelmaking unit in the Americas. The plant has the capacity to produce 8 Mtpa of hot metal and 7.6 Mtpa of crude steel. The integrated facility also has 4 Mtpa of hot rolled coil capacity and can produce cold rolled and galvanised coils. Tubarao has three blast furnaces (BFs) — #1, #2 and #3. In early April 2020, ArcelorMittal announced the idling BF #3 due to weak market conditions following the coronavirus crisis. A few months later, in October, the company opted to bring the furnace back online claiming improved demand fundamentals. We expect Tubarao's crude steel production to remain flat in 2022.
