The refinery is located at White Pine, Michigan and has adequate road links. The Copper Range Co. started modern copper mining at White Pine in 1952 and in 1955 commissioned a reverberatory furnace smelter. During the 1977 oil boom the company was purchased by the Louisiana Land and Exploration Co.
