Xian zinc smelter
Report summary
The original smelter was a 15kt/a unit at Mei Xian, 150km west of Xi'an. Construction of a larger plant of 35kt/a capacity, the Xian smelter, commenced in 1998. This operation was commissioned in June 2002 and was situated in the southern suburbs of Xi'an. Production never reached the 35kt/a level, and this allied to its urban location lead to the smelter being closed in 2013.
