The Yunnan Copper Smelter was constructed in 1958 as an electric furnace smelter with nominal capacity of 60kt/a and was commissioned in 1960. By installing a second electric furnace, the smelting capacity reached 82kt/a in 1970. In the 1990's the capacity reached 100kt/a copper by the addition of additional converter capacity and electric furnace expansion.
