Lebanon Sinai - Levant exploration basin
Report summary
The Sinai-Levant Basin comprises the easternmost portion of the Mediterranean along with the onshore region extending from the Sinai Peninsula to Syria. The deepwater Oligo-Miocene play that has yielded the giant Tamar, Leviathan and Aphrodite gas discoveries in Israel and Cyprus, is thought to extend into Lebanon. Following a licensing round in 2017/2018, the first offshore exploration well is expected to spud in late-2019. In this report Wood Mackenzie summarises the key issues facing explorers in Lebanon, and what value they might create from gas discoveries in the country. It provides details of the geology of the play and the fiscal and regulatory terms.
