Asset Report
Malaysia Sarawak - Luconia-East Natuna exploration basin
Report summary
The Sarawak - Luconia-East Natuna Basin is located off the northern coast of Borneo and straddles the maritime boundary of Malaysia and Indonesia. It is one of the most prolific in SE Asia, with total resources of over 13.8 bnboe discovered to date. During the last decade, overall and commercial success rates were significantly higher than global average. Large gas finds in the shelf and deepwater in recent years indicate material remaining prospective resources. The enlarging gas supply/demand gap and sufficient infrastructure in the shallow waters of the basin support the commercialisation of future discoveries in the two shelf plays. However, gas-dominated deepwater discoveries will require significant investment and need to achieve low costs or higher gas price to deliver value. Shell, PETRONAS, ConocoPhillips, PTTEP, Murphy Oil and Mubadala are among the most active explorers in the basin. Full details are available for download in pdf and xls format.
