On Dec 4th 2016, the US Department of Army denied an easement that would have allowed the Dakota Access pipeline to cross under Lake Oahe in North Dakota. This decision is seen as a victory for Native American tribes and environmental groups who have vigorously protested the pipeline development. However, the victory might prove to be short-lived as President-elect Trump has indicated support for the pipeline.
