Europe power supply H1 2018 in review
Report summary
Using data from our Europe Energy Data Pack, this presentation reviews the development of power supply in Europe’s largest electricity markets – Germany, France, Italy, Iberia (Spain & Portugal) and the UK – comparing volumes and flows from the first six months of 2017 and 2018. With demand slightly down, a rise in renewable generation – due to higher output from hydro and wind – accompanied by a small increase in nuclear output has reduced power supply from coal (-16%) and gas (-12%), both of which fell in all markets. The most significant change was the resurgence of hydro production (+42%), partially due to an abatement of the dry conditions experienced throughout the Continent in 2017.
