Mexico gas and power reform: a brewing storm or ready to perform?
Report summary
The Mexican Energy Reform ended 75 years of state monopoly across the power, oil and gas sectors, allowing private companies to participate in all aspects of the value chain. But after four years of implementing the new market construct and massive investment in new infrastructure to deliver lower cost natural gas from the US, 2017 saw power price spikes driven by gas market fundamentals. Are these short-lived growing pains or a sign of market turbulence ahead?
