Subsidy-free offshore wind in Europe: there’s a storm coming
This report is currently unavailable
Report summary
On 13th of April 2017, Germany’s Federal Network Agency awarded contracts for 1490 MW of offshore wind power. The most significant aspect of this result was that three of the four projects – accounting for all but 110 MW of the contracted capacity – had been bid into the auction process at zero-cost. In 2016, the Danish and Dutch governments contracted for offshore wind at prices in the range of €50 to €70/MWh, representing significant new markers for cost reduction – how have the German projects gone so much further?
