National electrification planning exercises increasingly rely on standalone SHS and minigrid solutions to provide affordable and appropriate energy solutions to portions of the unelectrified population beyond the grid’s reach. Minigrids have staggering unexploited potential to complete the integrated electrification planning puzzle in emerging markets. Some rarely concurrent attributes about Kenya’s market make it an appealing case study to apply and refine a contextualized market evaluation methodology and draw lessons for the global minigrids sector.
