How does petrochemical integration improve competitive position?
Report summary
The global pandemic and energy transition emphasise the importance of a strong competitive position for downstream sites. A key question is how can this be achieved. In 2020, second generation integrated refinery and petrochemical sites have demonstrated the resilience of the contribution from petrochemicals, so further supporting petrochemicals as a source of value addition. PetroPlan in conjunction with REM Chemicals can be used to quickly assess the impact of a competitor making a major downstream investment, either in their refinery or integrated petrochemicals. In this Insight we explore, using REM-Chemicals, S-Oil’s decision to add steam cracking at its site at Onsan, South Korea.
