Commodity Market Report
Morocco retail fuels long-term outlook
Report summary
The Moroccan retail fuels sector is highly concentrated, with the top four players controlling around two-thirds of the market. Although the passenger car fleet is nearly evenly split between gasoline and diesel power vehicles, diesel is the predominant fuel sold at service stations in Morocco. This is due to the large share of commercial volumes sold through the retail network. Following the closure of the Mohammedia refinery in 2015, the country relies entirely on imports to meet domestic demand. The leading fuel retailers have since taken the opportunity to increase their influence on the wholesale market and now effectively act as price-setters.
