Biofuels are set to play an important role in decarbonising road transport in the EU. The REDII Directive, which came into force this year, mandates that a minimum of 14% of the energy consumed in road transport comes from renewable sources by 2030. With several countries legislating more ambitious targets, biofuel blending in the road transport fuels will increase over the next decade. In this insight we explain how the use of more advanced feedstocks, increased production of HVO and the rapid uptake of EVs will all play a vital role in meeting the target over the next decade.
