The global rebound in diesel/gasoil demand: how long will it last?
Report summary
Global demand for diesel/gasoil grew by nearly 400 kb/d year-on-year in Q2 2017 following a fall in 2016 and a slow start to 2017. Consumption growth surged because of a lower oil price, and an acceleration in industrial production growth in key markets. Can this growth be sustained? With global oil product demand forecast to grow by 1.35 million b/d in 2018, diesel/ gasoil demand contributes 300,000 b/d to this growth in our base case. However, both upside and downside risks remain prevalent, including: • Stronger industrial productivity in the US and Europe • Environmental policy in China
