The Bazhenov formation is an enormous play that underlies most of West Siberia's conventional reservoirs. Resource estimates are highly variable because of the limited exploration. Development has considerably slowed down in the low oil price/sanctions environment. Current oil production is around 12,000 b/d. Gazpromneft is leading a federal project to unlock the potential of the play. It targets production of 20,000 b/d by 2025.
