The Devonian Duvernay Formation is an emerging liquids-rich shale play located in Alberta, Canada. The Duvernay Formation of the Woodbend Group is known to be the key source rock for the Leduc and Swan Hills oil and gas fields in Alberta. The Duvernay began attracting industry attention as a target zone in 2009 when bidders invested hundreds of millions of dollars in acreage prospective for the play through multiple lease sales.
