Asset Report
Lorraine CBM unconventional play
Report summary
The Lorraine basin in France contains coals with high gas content. The region has been extensively mined with good data detailing the coal deposits. The Lorraine coalbed methane (CBM) play is still in the early stages, with very few wells. Exploration drilling has suggested that commercial production may be possible, although the 2011 ban on hydraulic fracturing makes economic development more challenging. New exploration was banned in 2017, with all hydrocarbon production slated to cease by 2040 in France.
