Asset Report
Sichuan Basin shale gas unconventional play
Report summary
Gas demand in China continues to grow, and while domestic gas production has increased, over the longer term, conventional sources will not be able to keep pace with surging demand. Coupled with an emphasis on diversifying the country's energy mix, there is now a strong focus on the development of unconventional resources, including tight gas, CBM, and shale gas. The Sichuan shale play is currently the most active and most productive shale play in China. Despite the impressive progress at Fuling, the Sichuan shale play is still at the early stage of development, and uncertainty over the resource potential and geology exists.
