The Uinta Basin is a complex hydrocarbon system that has been producing from the Tertiary-aged Green River and Wasatch formations since the late 1940s. This tight oil play is distinct from the Green River Oil Shale. Modern drilling and completion methods have revitalized the play, where horizontal development of the Uteland Butte and Wasatch could be a key catalyst for production growth in the basin. The crude produced is waxy, averaging 15% paraffin content, but it is still considered light and sweet.
