Report summary

Pungarayacu is one of the largest undeveloped resources in Latin America with an estimated OOIP of 12 billion barrels. It is an extra-heavy oil field in the western part of the Oriente basin. Petroecuador discovered the field in 1980, but it is still undeveloped due to the technical challenges associated with producing and transporting extra-heavy oil.
