Pungarayacu is one of the largest undeveloped resources in Latin America with an estimated OOIP up to 12 billion barrels. It is an extra-heavy oil field in the western part of the Oriente basin. Petroecuador discovered the field in 1980 and carried out a 26-well appraisal drilling program.
