Block 60 (Abu Butabul) is in west central Oman, around 40 kilometres from the Saudi Arabia border. Petroleum Development Oman (PDO) discovered the Abu Butabul gas field in 1998 but relinquished the rights to it due to the challenging tight gas reservoir. BG acquired the block in 2006 and drilled seven appraisal wells before exiting in 2010. In 2011, Oman Oil Company (now OQ) signed an Exploration and Production Sharing Agreement (EPSA) for the block.
