Block A6 is located in the shallow and ultra deep waters of the Bay of Bengal and covers an area of nearly 10,000 km2. In 2007, the block was awarded to local operator MPRL. Initial exploration drilling discovered the Pyi Thar gas field, opening up a new play in the Bay of Bengal. Attracted by the discovery, Woodside farmed in the Block in 2013 as a joint operator, followed by Total in 2015. The partners drilled the Shwe Yee Htun-1 wildcat in 2015 and discovered gas.
