Brazilian pre-salt gas reinjection dilemma
Report summary
The Brazilian government is taking actions to increase the economic participation of industry. One of them is to boost gas supply in a short-term, so chemical and fertilizer plants will be benefited. One of the ideas is to reduce the gas reinjection in the Brazilian pre-salt fields and make these additional volumes available for sale. This change in reservoir management will negatively impact operators´ revenue and government take from these fields on a long-term. Potential bottlenecks in the existing offshore pipeline infrastructure will also need to be evaluated. Furthermore, in order to sustain industrial consumption in a long-term, Brazil will have to rely on new gas discoveries.
