Report summary

The Buzachi North heavy oil field is located in west Kazakhstan and is operated by a consortium of CNPC, PetroChina and Sinopec (Buzachi Operating). Ownership has changed repeatedly since the 1990s, most recently when LUKOIL exited in 2015.The field was discovered in 1975, but development was delayed by its cold, viscous crude in very shallow reservoirs.
