The Buzachi North heavy oil field is located in southwest Kazakhstan. It is operated by a consortium of Sinopec, CNPC and PetroChina.The field was discovered in 1975 but development was delayed by its cold, viscous crude in very shallow reservoirs. Oil production is around 20,000 b/d – only about half the peak level achieved in the early 2010s.
