Report summary

The Chuandongbei project located in northeast Sichuan Basin is a group of onshore large sized gas fields with high hydrogen sulphide (H2S) and carbon dioxide (CO2)content. PetroChina brought in Chevron in 2007 to jointly develop the sour gas fields after coming across a series of challenges including fatal well blowouts mountainous terrain surrounding the fields and close proximity to highly populous areas. Project start up initially targeted for early 2012 saw further slippage to 2015.
