The Gupco Merged Area comprises numerous offshore concessions across the Gulf of Suez, sitting within a single tax ring fence. The first and the largest to date was the Morgan field, discovered in 1965. Amoco (now BP) discovered other anchor fields, including July, Ramadan, and October, between 1973 and 1977.Production started in 1967 and peaked in the 1980s at around 500 kb/d.
