Report summary

The Khvalynskoye field is located offshore, in the Caspian Sea, close to the Kazakh border. The field was discovered in 2000, but its development has been hampered by a territorial dispute between Kazakhstan and Russia. In May 2002, Astana and Moscow reached an agreement on the division of the North Caspian Sea on a median-line principle.
