North Sumatra B Block contains the historically important giant gas-condensate Arun field. LNG production from the Arun plant began in 1978 under Mobil's operatorship, with six LNG trains in operation at peak production. As gas production declined sharply 2003 onwards, capacity was gradually reduced until LNG output ceased in 2014. In 2015, PERATMINA took over the block from ExxonMobil. The plant was subsequently converted into a storage and regasification facility. Effective May 2021, a 20-year licence extension was awarded to PT Pema Global Energi (PGE) - a subsidiary of the Aceh-government owned company PT Aceh Development (PEMA).
