Paraguay is land-locked in the centre of South America and is surrounded by hydrocarbon-rich countries Brazil, Argentina, and Bolivia. Over 50 exploration wells have been drilled, although the first potentially significant hydrocarbons discovery was not made until 2014. The country imports and consumes around 28,000 b/d of refined products. The Chaco region in the northwest of the country (the Carandayty and Curupayty sub-basins) was originally considered to be the most prospective region. ...
