Permian primary research: Midland meeting takeaways
Report summary
In late September, we travelled to West Texas to sit down with some of the Permian’s most active producers, drillers, explorers and acquirers. What did we learn? Tight oil producers expect regional oilfield service (OFS) cost inflation to rise again next year, but only by mid-single digits compared to 2022. Logistical solutions to this year’s intense supply chain bottlenecks are at the door. That’ll allow liquids production to grow but favorable gas economics play a limited role in that decision. Overall, there is a sense of optimism in Midland right now, despite broader energy markets pulling back from 2022's summer highs. Importantly, producers are confident they can showcase stability in their businesses in the future.
