The Prirazlomnoye field was discovered in 1989 and is Russia's first and only offshore Arctic oil development. It lies on the Pechora Sea shelf, approximately 60 kilometres from the shore and in shallow water. The nearest major ports of Arkhangelsk and Murmansk are over 1,000 kilometres away.Production was originally planned to start in the mid-1990s, but various delays pushed this back to December 2013.
