The Rubiales heavy oil field is located in the Llanos basin and is one of the largest producing fields in Colombia. Frontera Energy (formerly Pacific Rubiales) carried out the initial phase of development and was able to grow production from 1,000 b/d in 2002 to over 200,000 b/d in 2013.
