Rumaila

Rumaila has been the backbone of Iraq's production for over six decades. Located in the province of Basra, production peaked at 1.7 million b/d in the late-1970s. However, a lack of investment caused production to decline to 1 million b/d by 2009. The Rumaila Operating Organisation, comprising BP, CNPC and Iraq's State Oil Marketing Organisation (SOMO), was awarded a Technical Service Contract (TSC) to redevelop the field in 2009.
