Shale EOR: a quick refresher
Report summary
After Denbury's purchase of Penn Virginia in November 2018 and subsequent commentary on applying its enhanced oil recovery expertise to the Eagle Ford, we took the opportunity to revisit shale EOR projects. Where could projects work well and what do asset modellers need to understand? For perspective, operators began testing EOR techniques in unconventional plays as early as 2010. Projects have spanned the Bakken, Eagle Ford and SCOOP-STACK. Most early attempts were met with mild technical success and by our analysis were mostly uneconomic. Has the technology or our outlook for projects changed though?
