Civil war broke out in Sudan in April 2023. Oil production in South Sudan has remained steady despite the ongoing war in Sudan. However, exports of crude oil through Sudan are reported to have ceased as force majeure was declared by Sudan on oil exports from South Sudan in February 2024. Prior to the outbreak of war, South Sudan relied wholly on piped exports via Sudan as an evacuation route for crude produced.
