Top 10 US upstream takeaways from a Biden win
Report summary
President-elect Biden’s campaign platform included some emotive points around federal leasing and onshore hydraulic fracturing regulation. But there’s so much more to the story for US upstream. Offshore assets in the Gulf of Mexico and Alaska could also be impacted by royalty changes and new environmental regulations. Most oil and gas topics will take time for the next cabinet to address. Low hanging fruit will be prioritised, but what exactly falls into that category? Pipeline regulations? Taxation? Are there differences in how groundwater and air quality protections will change? We feel there are longer-term political strategy elements, too. Will protecting Democratic support in key oil and gas states temper the changes industry ultimately sees?
