Lease Sale 257 attracted 317 bids from 33 participating companies with the high bid amount totalling US$191 million. The number of blocks receiving bids increased by 88% when compared to the total number of blocks bid on in 2020, but the high bid amount fell by 10% to a new record low. The shelf surprised on the upside and drove bidding activity with ExxonMobil as the chief player. BP, Chevron, and Occidental Petroleum emerged as top spenders for deepwater blocks.
