On 16 December 2019, WPX announced plans to acquire Felix Energy in a deal worth US$2.5 billion. The deal will consist of US$900 million in cash and US$1.6 billion in WPX shares and the company will issue senior notes to fund the cash portion of the consideration. With debt and equity raises ahead, the deal is still heavily dependent on investor approval. But the market responded favourably on the day of the announcement with shares up 10%.
