Accelerating ASEAN's Energy Transition to Achieve Carbon Neutrality

With the carbon neutrality commitments in place and low carbon technologies emerging, governments across the Asia Pacific region are now acting against emissions for a cleaner energy transition roadmap.

This year, Wood Mackenzie, the official knowledge partner of Enlit Asia, brings unique views of what decarbonization means to utilities, renewables project developers, investors, and power end-users in a fast-evolving power and renewables market. Across the three-day event, we’ll be presenting and hosting sessions to discuss the key topics that you may be interested in.

Presentation: Corporate green power procurement as a new renewables investment driver in Asia

“Driven by soaring power costs, the use of green PPAs is booming in Southeast Asia bringing opportunities for developers to lock-in revenue and end-users to save on power costs. What are the latest market growth trends by country and end-user segment? How would you define the policy landscape, barriers and new opportunities? What are developers and corporate buyers looking into now in terms of green PPAs?”

Hear from Antoine Gaudin, our Senior Consultant on Day 3 Stream 1.

Presentation: Exploring China’s Investment Priorities in The ASEAN Region

"China, Japan and South Korea are cutting off future coal power funding with their announcements in 2021 that ends new public financing for coal power. In the short term, up to 7 GW of planned coal plants in the Southeast Asia region could be impacted. Which power technologies will be prioritized for Chinese investors to play in the ASEAN region? How would the “One Belt One Road policy” impact the landscape? What is the win-win strategy for domestic and international players in the energy sectors?"

Hear from Melvin Chen, our Head of Energy Transition Consulting on Day 3 Stream 1.

Panel: Regional Power Producers’ Decarbonisation Goals Amidst a Recovering ASEAN Economy

"What are the capex investment priorities of ASEAN power companies? Where do IPPs see opportunity to diversify their current portfolios and what capital is available for these investments? Does this require support from governments and if so, what are companies looking for?"

Join Ken Lee, our Principal Analyst as he talks with companies navigating the energy transition in Southeast Asia.

Panel: Exploring the future of Ammonia in the Clean Energy Transition

"Ammonia and hydrogen co-firing in thermal power generation will be technically feasible before 2030, but the challenges are high generation cost, low co-firing rate and insufficient supply. The generation cost of ammonia/blue hydrogen co-firing will remain high compared to existing thermal power generation, at least by 2035. Ammonia co-firing rate is expected to reach 50% by 2030, but it is not enough to achieve carbon neutrality."

Join Yamato Kawamata, our Senior Analyst on Day 2 Stream 3 for clean technology talks.

Panel: RE Project Developers – Creating the Catalyst for Greater RE Adoption Across ASEAN

“What will it take for renewable energy (RE) to grow in Southeast Asia (ASEAN)? Can countries meet their net zero targets when conventional thermal power is still 70% of all power capacity? Are there opportunities for more cross border integration of RE, or will energy security be prioritized?  I ask some of the leading power developers in ASEAN for their visions and strategy."

Hear from Robert Liew, our Principal Analyst in the panel discussion on Day 3 Stream 1.

Knowledge Hub session: EPSI - the flexible power modeling tool for the energy transition

Learn how EPSI can help you uncover supply and demand risks to solidify your strategy by:

  • creating different scenarios and forecast power prices from short-term to long-term;
  • perform different sensitivity analysis based on fluctuating gas prices; and
  • analyze the impact of supply-side changes like renewable capacity additions, oil-powered thermal plant retirements, and combined cycle new builds on the power market

by Luis Catalan (Account Manager), and Yamato Kawamata (Senior Power Market Analyst)

Knowledge Hub session: Southeast Asia Power Forecast Update

  • Curtailment risks towards 2030;
  • Emissions outlook and the trends in fossil fuel generation;
  • Outlook on power prices and capacity.

by Robert Liew (Principal Analyst), Joshua Allsop (Sales Director), and Jia Liang Lim (Research Associate)
