The global thermal coal market has been subjected to extensive volatility over the past decade and we see that continuing. The results of these scenarios are two divergent 10 year trends with the upside being that the thermal coal trade returns to strength within Asia post-coronavirus with a relaxation in protectionist policies. Or weakens as countries change policy to favour domestic companies, the coronavirus economic damage lingers, and the energy transition accelerates.
